Common Postural Deviations

The constant struggle of every day life increases the chance of developing bad posture.  Some slight postural deviations are to be expected due to work commitments, hobbies and general every day living but that being said, it doesn't mean you have to suffer with aches, pains, discomfort or restriction of movement.
As a Sports Therapist i come across all kinds of postures ranging from bad to good and everything in between and i am able to benefit my patients dramatically, improving, range of movement, strength and general day to day aches and discomfort that we all can feel after doing certain tasks.

1st thing to check is that the pelvis is in a neutral position,  If the pelvis is tilted in a certain direction this can shift the whole upper body, effecting how we stand, sit, walk and run.  The body compensates for the tilt which in turn can create muscle stiffness, weaker muscles and quite commonly, tension headaches.

The pelvis can be positioned into the correct place using a technique known as Myofascial release.
Fascia is a sheet of connective tissue that wraps around each muscle of the body effecting where it sits in the body.....imagine a big sheet of cling film wrapped around all your muscles....if one part of the fascia is effected its all effected, as its one continual sheet.

Myofascial release has proven to work countless times for my patients and I when correcting postural deviations.

My advice would be to seek out a Sports Therapist registered with the Sports Therapy Organisation (STO) and they will be able to talk you through what you need to know and hopefully be able to help with your posture.

Due to Laptops, Tablets and Mobile Phones our posture is increasingly getting worse...

How is your posture whilst you are reading this???
